FHC Research Cluster Grant

The Furman Humanities Center (FHC) invites proposals for transdisciplinary/interdisciplinary research working groups from all departments and programs of Furman University.

*Each proposal’s research theme shall be determined by a team consisting of at least one Furman Humanities Faculty member.

*Each workshop team consists of a core group of Faculty and Student Fellows (with a four person minimum consisting of at least two Faculty/Staff and two Students) who will meet in the Furman Humanities Center to pursue collaborations focused on the central theme.

*One Faculty member for each team shall be designated as the Faculty Coordinator for the Workshop.


Team Commitment

Plan and organize at least three working group events per semester.

Invite speakers from inside and outside the Furman University community to discuss relevant current research and present 2 CLP events (minimum).

Publicize events to the Furman community and the public.


Funding

Up to 3 research cluster proposals will be accepted and each team will receive $8,000 per workshop for the academic year. This amount includes up to a $2,000 stipend for Student Fellows (up to $500 per student) and up to a $3,000 stipend for all participating Faculty/Staff, divided according to parameters determined and agreed upon by the Faculty Coordinator and all participating Faculty/Staff. At the close of the year the Faculty Coordinator is required to provide feedback by means of a quick survey and by providing a promotional press release, replete with representative photos.
